MSNBC host and former press secretary Biden Jen Psaki dedicated a segment of online speculation about President Donald Trump’s health on Tuesday, mourning that “we can never know” why he “suddenly spent a week hiding” from the public.
“You really can’t ever do these things,” Psaki said, showing the president denying rumors of his death during a White House press event earlier during the day. Msnbc’s host argued that Trump’s answer was annoying, adding, “and see, we can never know why Donald Trump suddenly spent a week hiding completely from the American public, but you do not really need unfounded online plots to explain why he will not want to show his face in public now.”
Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he was “very active” on the weekend of the work day.
However, Psaki suggested some possible reasons he may have avoided public appearances.
“For beginners, there is voting and the boy, is it brutal. Americans are increasingly pessimistic about their lives now. A newly issued Wall Street Journal’s survey reveals that the percentage of Americans who think they have a good chance to improve their standard of living has fallen to only 25%, which is a new new one in nearly four decades.
She also argued during the segment that Trump had been “willing to show his face in public for a week” because of his “absolute failure to try and make people forget his 15-year friendship with children’s sex predator Jeffrey Epstein.”
“God knows it can be a reason,” Psaki said. “Perhaps the biggest reason Trump has been so timid lately is that many of this reaction seem to be working.”
The White House did not immediately return a comment request.
Psaki was accused of “hypocrisy” and a lack of “consciousness” by conservative commentators and social media users after the segment was broadcast.
The MSNBC liberal host had previously minimized concerns about the advanced age of former President Biden and cognitive abilities before the CNN debate in June 2024 in Atlanta between Biden and Trump.
RealClearpolitics co -founder Tom Bevan said Psaki was right for one thing, writing on X, “You can’t do these things.”
One user responded to a Psaki clip and said, “It’s called hypocrisy for the good of it.”
“Just incredible that Jen Psaki is trying this. Even,” another wrote.
Martha Zoller, a conservative political commentator, argued that Psaki had no “no authority to comment on this” because she worked for Biden.
Psaki insisted during a podcast in early May that she never saw a reduced biden while she was working for her.
“I never saw that person – not once, and I was in the oval office every day, it was at that stage of debate,” Psaki said in Podcast “mixed signals”.
“I’m not a doctor,” she added. “Aging occurs quite quickly.”
Psaki joined MSNBC in 2022. In 2023, she raised concerns about Biden’s age and said he was better than the alternative.
“Joe Biden is not perfect. No candidate is out of the way. But we need to understand what the alternative is here. If he is elected in a second term, Donald Trump will prosecute anyone who judges an enemy, releasing troops for protesters, and essentially unveiling the rule of law as we know it, and this time, he plans.
“But for sure, Joe Biden is three years older and occasionally travels for things,” she told MSNBC viewers at the time.
